For Today; September 30, 2008 - Tuesday

Outside My Windowchirping birds (these are the wild roses I'm always talking about the sparrows inhabiting)...some weeds pulled & tossed into compost bin which is in the chicken yard...speeds up the process...as the old saying goes, "compost happens"!

I am thinkinggetting off computer & preparing WW meeting.

I am thankful forgetting yard mowed this past weekend & making progress on weed pulling.

From the kitchen... coffee brewing...Fiber One cereal...skim milk...sliced banana.

I am wearingchenille robe

I am creating a Week in the Life . . .

I am goingto photograph different aspects of our days

I am reading Ali Edwards blog

I am hopingto figure out an easy way to add photos to email

I am hearingbirds chirping & a crow cawing

Around the houseit's pretty sad as most of my time has spent NOT doing housework...I now know I CANNOT take care of this place w/o Murray...

One of my favorite thingsa good night's sleep, which I got last night . . . 7 hours. . . . straight through. . . .Glory!

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...to continue photographing our day . . . volunteer at Good Sam . . . maybe help w/church garage sale . . . but most likely continue pulling weeds.

Something you may not know about me: I used to be shy!

For Today - September 28, 2008 - Sunday

Outside My Windowinky blackness . . . it's 5:40 AM

I am thinkingabout ironing church clothes, making stuffed eggs, and maybe walking Shiloh before I do those first two things.

I am thankful fortoday getting to be a restful day...church...pastor's house...maybe out to eat...home...& how about a nap this afternoon?

From the kitchen... coffee brewing

I am wearingshiny aqua pajamas

I am creating a restful day

I am goingto make bacon & eggs deviled eggs to take to church...for the 4th Sunday breakfast

I am reading Nothing for the last couple of days

I am hopingto putter around the house...that's when lots of organizing & decluttering takes place...when I putter

I am hearingcrickets chirping

Around the housejust remnants of two people who live here

One of my favorite thingsthe changing seasons

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...to scrapbook that page of Amanda & her g'ma (all I need is the title & journaling) ...meeting with Lexa about subbing her children's' Sunday School class...getting our frozen food from the pastor.

Something yu may not know about me: I seldom leave the ho use without lipstick

For Today - September 27, 2008 - Saturday

atuOutside My Windowfreshly mowed grass & recently baled hay. I did the mowing . . . all by myself!

I am thinkingthat I'm getting too old for so much yard work.

I am thankful fornot having to go to the WW staff meeting today. I've not missed one, not a single one, & decided to stay home to tend to Murray.

From the kitchen... fresh peaches & strawberries.

I am wearingdenim shorts (thanks Charlotte!) & peachy tank top w/bling on top!

I am creating a plan to live with less stuff. I "must" use it or love it or else it must go out. I can no longer keep something because I might do something cool & creative with it some day.

I am goingto take a shower, have a glass of wine & eat dinner.

I am reading The Bible & am almost through with Jeremiah! Am encouraged how it's really hard for someone to go to hell. God is always pursuing . . . always loving . . . always so stubbornly in love with us & wooing us.

I am hopingto get a good night's sleep.

I am hearingsomeone else's lawnmower...clock ticking...computer humming

Around the housea clean living room & kitchen....everything else still needs me to tend to it...but it can wait.

One of my favorite thingsthe smell of freshly mowed grass.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...to scrapbook that page of Amanda & her g'ma...meeting with Lexa about subbing her childrens' Sunday School class...getting our frozen food from the pastor.

ForToday - September 26, 2008 - Friday

OK - time to get back to daily journaling. Much has happened since the last entry. Mainly Ike. Mainly Murray having a herniated disk. Mainly going to Florida!

Outside My Windowcoolness, blessed coolness. It seems as if autumn might really be here!

I am thinkingthat it would be fun to do something like this: http://3191ayearofmornings.com/

I am thankful forMurray going to the doctor & getting a shot & a bunch of meds. Doc thinks it may be herniated disk, but because it's a worker's comp claim has to wait 2 weeks before requesting an MRI. Maybe he should have gone sooner? Maybe he would have had more fun in Florida if he had!

From the kitchenCoffee & the promises of breakfast

I am wearingThat comfy chenille robe.

I am creating a new layout for picture of Amanda & her Grandma S.

I am goingto get my rear in gear, as the saying goes. Also may call Kitty if I can't get in touch with Kevin, as I haven't heard from him in abut 6 weeks.

I am reading The Bible & am almost through with Jeremiah! Am encouraged how it's really hard for someone to go to hell. God is always pursuing . . . always loving . . . always so stubbornly in love with us & wooing us.

I am hopingto go walking before it gets hot.

I am hearingShiloh grooming himself ; )...ceiling fan...sparrows in the roses.

Around the houseMuch yard work needing to be done...a much needed deep cleaning...maybe more like much needed deep de-cluttering.

One of my favorite thingsthe awareness of God in my life...so often I forget that this life is "just a test"...there is a higher purpose to what happens to me...I often tend to forget that & get frustrated by "my" plans being derailed...I think that's why people go searching for money, fame, weird religions, etc...they've moved away from God & don't feel/experience His presence...Yep - one of my favorite things is being aware of God with me.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...a bit of yard work...that scrapbook page of Amanda...WW staff meeting tomorrow...taking Kwabena to church with us on Sunday...meeting with Lexa about subbing her childrens' Sunday School class.

Musing About Ike - Part II

We had a generator this time around. It sure makes a big difference to be able to have some semblance of order. And the temperatures were very mild . . . unlike Rita, when it was 102 the day before she hit. Definitely the mild temps made it all very bearable.

My parents lost electricity at the assisted living facility...at least in the apartments. The public rooms were on a generator and had power. Some seniors from Texas City were brought in. I was
disappointed to hear how some of the residents complained about the inconvenience of having mattresses in the hallways & breakfast being served a little later than usual because of the 50 extra folks there.

Momma & daddy did very well & I'm so proud of how they conducted themselves with dignity and gentleness. They demonstrated right well, the qualities of "the greatest generation ever". Some of the others behaved as spoiled little teeny-boppers. Was surprised to hear of it.

Went to Orlando. IAH was opened on Tuesday and we just went to Florida. We had already made plans to be there that week, but was fun talking of evacuating TO Florida. Had a great time in spite of dh having a very bad hip problem. Codeine & brandy kept him pleasant.
Will go to doctor tomorrow or Wednesday.

A week later and the streets are cleared. At one time the majority of roads in Cherokee County were impassable. No one waited for the government to show up. One thing you can say about Texans - we know how and when to use a chainsaw! Folks just went out into the streets and made a clearing for the utility trucks to come through when possible. Of course no one attempted to cut trees out of the power lines.

We went out Sunday morning to survey the local damage. There were approximately 100 trees blown down from our house to the end of the block - about .8 mile. US Hwy 69 had trees down on it & horses on the loose, from nearby ranches whose fences were down.

It brought tears to my eyes to see right here in our itty bitty town, about 12 tree removal trucks from West Des Moines, Iowa. How on earth did they ever hear about us? God bless them all.

For the most part, people have been behaving themselves.

Nephew's apartment in Seabrook/Kemah area is gone. Gone. Totally gone.

Brother had water in his garage & a bit into house.

Parents home, which we've not yet sold, has branches down. Still no electricity there. Yard was a mess, but brother and his wife did a good job of cleaning it up. No flooding. Ought to be a selling point when we put it on the market.

OK - gotta' finish cleaning up house. We left it a bit of a mess when
we headed out to Florida.

Musings about Ike

I have fallen short of even my lowest expectations for blogging these last nine days, but I am home, safe and sound.

Hurricane Ike. Oh - what a monstrous fellow he was. He came in near Galveston and tore through Houston and then plowed his way through east TX. Can you believe it - he was still a hurricane when he hit our neck of the woods. Even though more devastating than Rita from three years ago, it was easier on me this time.

For one reason, he came through during daylight hours. There's just something unnerving about a storm in the dark. We were ready for him. I washed the den windows (inside and out just hours before he arrived) and continued sorting through my photos! At 8:30 in the morning we lost electricity. That is nothing unusual . . . sometimes we lose it on a weekly basis. I don't know what it's all about, but it's very easy for us in this rural area to lose electricity. Murray and I listened to news updates on the battery-powered radio and waited for him to arrive. And did he arrive!!!

I'm guessing the gusts were between 65-70 mph. The eye passed over Palestine, just west of us, so we were on the messy side. Although we didn't get much rain, we got plenty of wind.

One observation made during the height of the storm - birds are very clueless! The hummingbirds continued to visit the Cypress Vine blossoms! Oh my! The had quite a time of it . . . their feathers all ruffled and bent backward! The looked quite relieved when the wooden arbor the vine is on, took a dive!!! They continued to get nectar - but looked rather relieved they were so much closer to the ground and not way up in the air!

There was a male Cardinal who would go back and froth between the fig tree, the ground and then the porch. When the wind would die down, he'd go back to the branches of the tree and look around. When the wind kicked up again he'd once again get on the ground and hopped onto the porch. What a guy!

The wild roses at the back of the house were loaded with the usual flock of sparrows. There may be as many as a hundred out there at any one time. Anyway - they were chirping and twittering all through the storm. I asked Murray what he though they were saying. He started singing his reply with this refrain,

"I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me."

My prayer for the day was, "Lord, please make me a birdbrain".

Well, there's more to our experiences with Ike, but this is all for now. I need to clean up the messes around here! Something the birds don't have to do!

For Today - September 13, 2008 - Saturday

Outside My Windowwind. Wind & rain. And some shingles on the ground. It's 8:19 & the worst of it will be between 2 - 7 PM. Oh my.

I am thinkingthat I wish my man were home w/me.

I am thankful forgetting shower before electricity went out.

From the kitchenSpaghetti; clean dishes; yogurt; & lots of fruit. Don't have to cook fruit!

I am wearingThat comfy chenille robe.

I am creatinga stack of things to take to Florida.

I am goingto hunker down & stay put. Might as well enjoy the day as much as possible. The trouble w/losing the electricity so early in the storm, is that it will get very hot very fast & no way can we open doors & windows 'cause of the torrential downpour.

I am reading "Boundaries" & the Bible. Finally am in Jeremiah!

I am hopingthat Hearthstone will soon get full power.

I am hearingWind. More wind. Wind & rain hitting the windows.

Around the houseQuiet inside. No fan. No dishwasher, dryer, TV, etc. But the clock ticks on!

One of my favorite thingsAir conditioning.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...Pack for Florida & continue making piles of things to take. Only 50# suitcase per passenger & each one carry on. Debby wants me to bring quilt she made for me. Hoping there's enough room.

Friday, September 12, 2008

For Today - September 12, 2008 - Friday

Outside My Windowhumidity & lots of busy-ness in town as people pass through, evacuating north because of Ike.

I am thinkinghow I hope & pray our electricity stays on. I'm not afraid of wind nor rain but am so dependent on electricity! And we lose it so very, very easily...the main drawback of living in a rural area.

I am thankful formy hubby going out at 4:30 AM to fill up the van.

From the kitchenscrambled eggs w/grilled veggies, toast & jam. And coffee.

I am wearingshiny turquoise nightshirt

I am creatingmore photo organization than I've ever had!

I am goingto Jacksonville to pick up coop produce. Must, must take back roads, as traffic heading north on 69 is already a nightmare. Yay for Rusk, as they already reconfigured the one & only red light in town to stay green for longer period of time for south/north traffic. But still, traffic is much heavier than usual for a town of 5,000.

I am reading "Boundaries" & the Bible. Finally am in Jeremiah!

I am hopingthat Ike does not come through east TX as fosrecasted.

I am hearingTV in background, fan whirring, hubby in kitchen.

Around the houseeverything getting done to be prepared to live w/o electricity. When Rita came through we were w/o it for 5 days!

One of my favorite things…no traffic; no drama; no hurricane

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...Well, I'm guessing Amanda is NOT coming this weekend as planned! Mainly to hunker down here at home: watch TV as long as we have electricity; play backgammon; go to bed early; maybe put extra photos into the binders. I have finally completed sorting them & categorizing the ones I hope to scrap. The ones w/no particular plans no go into a binder, in case I need them as extras in telling the stories. After a couple of years they'll be moved to cold storage.

Wednesday, September 10, 2008

For Today - September 10, 2008 - Wednesday

Outside My Windowheat & humidity. Lots of humidity. Very, very humid! But the birds don't care - they're chirping like crazy~

I am thinkingthat I'm kind of getting tired of all this hurricane drama. How fun it was to serendipitously get to meet Bill & Star. As far as I'm concerned, they were the real stars of NBC's "America's Greatest Dog". Bill was always a gentleman, ready to help other contestants with their dogs. And so it was at Hobby Lobby in Tyler - they both took the time to stop & talk to strangers. I could tell he really liked visiting w/the young children. A real class act. Too bad they didn't win. But neither would "I" jump into midair. I don't blame Star for not doing it. Not at all!

I am thankful forfresh basil, fresh haircut.

From the kitchencoffee, yogurt parfait: plain f/f yogurt, sliced bananas & a sprinkle of Fiber One. Lunch: grilled cheese sandwich. Haven't planned supper but will include grilled veggies.

I am wearingpeach colored jammies

I am creatingorganized photos. Yes, it's taking a long time, but I'm enjoying the journey while headed toward that organized destination.

I am goingto stay home! Yay! It's my most favorite place in the whole world!

I am reading "Boundaries" & the Bible. Finally am in Jeremiah!

I am hopingget WW paperwork done & in the mail before the mailman comes.

I am hearingTV in background, fan whirring, those busy birds chirping!

Around the houseLittle areas that need to be tidied. Once again signs that people live, love & create here!

One of my favorite thingsan unscheduled day

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...WW paperwork; photo sorting; general housework, but nothing major.

Tuesday, September 9, 2008

For Today - September 9, 2008 - Tuesday

Outside My Window… Darkness, as it's 4:40 AM. Red cypress vine flowers, which the hummingbirds find so very attractive. A lovely breeze is keeping things rather cool.

I am thinking… of all that must be done today

I am thankful for… grown children, taking younger grandchildren to the park, fresh tomatoes & fresh eggs

From the kitchen… coffee. Nothing yet planned for tonight's supper

I am wearing… white shorts, brown top

I am creating… plans for a busy day

I am going… to Tyler. Poor Shiloh. In barely more than 12 ours he'll be in the crate. For the entire morning!

I am reading… "Boundaries" & the Bible. Finally am in Jeremiah!

I am hoping… to stay peaceful today despite too many to do’s for the day

I am hearing… crickets chirping, fan whirring, Shiloh grooming himself.

Around the house… I unpacked the suitcases, photos need to be put away from the sew.com

One of my favorite things… a good stretch in the morning

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: trip to Tyler, WW meeting, calls to friends & relatives, putting people first

Monday, September 8, 2008

For Today - September 8, 2008 - Monday

I am hearing: Ceiling fan humming, clock ticking, TV & washing machine in background.

I am thankful: for a decent night's sleep.

From the kitchen: Vanilla Coffee, Grapenut Cereal/ff milk/sliced banana

I am creating: plans for today & this week. Haircut in Tyler at 8 AM tomorrow. A GS Board meeting. WW prep & meeting.

I am going: finish unpacking the suitcases & all those photos! I got lots sorted, but the ones w/no plans to scrapbook did not get put into binders. Still much work to do. Fortunately it's work I very much enjoy.

I am wearing: That pitiful chenille robe.

I am reading: "Boundaries" & Isaiah. Read Boundaries aloud on the way here. Am on the chapter that deals w/boundaries & one's spouse.

I am hoping: to get a lot done.

Amanda can come this week for a visit!!!

And since the weather is so gorgeous to go walking. Up the hill. Fergie said her main exercise is setting the treadmill to an incline of 15 and walk slowly: 2.5. The hill right outside should have an incline close to 15!

Around the house: Things waiting for me to tend to them.

One of my favorite things: Boiled shrimp. Grilled onions. Egg Drop Soup. Melon. Chocolate. And I ate them all at one meal while in Shreveport. All my favorites. At one meal. Wonderful!

A few plans for the rest of the week: GS treasurer report. Photo sorting.

Something you may not know about me: I'm suppose to go to Florida next Tuesday. First to Houston w/Gustav possibly making landfall nearby. Now Florida, w/Ike possibly landing there. Or will it make landfall near Houston? Maybe I've become a storm chaser? Maybe that's something I don't know about me?!

Sunday, September 7, 2008

For Today - September 7, 2008 - Sunday

Outside my window: Sunset

I am hearing: I can tell you what I'm not hearing: "Attention, attention. There has been an incident reported. Please leave your room immediately & exit the building." Yep - that's what I heard yesterday. I grabbed my cell phone, purse & hotel key & took 12 flights of stairs to the outside of the Hilton. Yep - we were on the 12th floor, right next the the stairwell. Next time we're in a hotel I will take the emergency exit to see where I end up. This one took me to the far side of the building. I called Murray on the way down & he met me out front. Fortunately it was a false alarm. Lots of false alarms - the announcement came across loud & clear about 12 - 13 more times during the day. A roof sensor had gone haywire & was malfunctioning. Fortunately it was fixed before we went to bed last night!

I am thankful: to be back home.

From the kitchen: Nada.

I am creating: nothing - just got home & not creating a thing.

I am going: to bed early tonight.

I am wearing: Those new linen slacks & t-shirt

I am reading: "Boundaries" & Isaiah. Read Boundaries aloud on the way here. Am on the chapter that deals w/boundaries & one's spouse.

I am hoping: to sleep well.

Around the house: Not a whole lot.

One of my favorite things: Coming home.

A few plans for the rest of the week: Too tired to make plans!

Something you may not know about me: I'm not as young as I used to be! ; )

Saturday, September 6, 2008

For Today - September 6, 2008 - Saturday

Outside my window: People walking by as I'm in the business center at the Hilton in Shreveport, La.

I am hearing: Casting Crowns "Who Am I"! Who would've guess they'd have CC piped into the business center????

I am thankful: to have the time to rest & go through photos. Yes, I brought the majority of 6,000 photos w/me to sort through, the "Photo Freedom" way! What fun to watch TV & have all the photos spread out. It's a lovely set-up - lots of counter space, etc. And the mess is here - not at home! ; )

From the kitchen: Oops - not kitchen, but Murray did bring me a fruit plate & yogurt from the show. He's here on business & the convention center is right next door, so he popped back in w/b'fast for me. What a wonderful surprise!

I am creating: photo organization that makes sense to me. Like I've said before, I don't think chronologically when I see a photo - I think of the even, the memory, the characteristics & comparisons I see between people.

I am going: back upstairs. I went to the Boardwalk - no <$4 pants this time . . . had to spend $9.99. But I got a great pair of lined, linen pants for $10 & I'm satisfied. I am wearing: Short & tee-shirt. The weather is fantastic!

I am reading: "Boundaries" & Isaiah. Read Boundaries aloud on the way here. Am on the chapter that deals w/boundaries and family members.

I am hoping: to make good progress on pics.

Around the house: Well, for today, my house is the hotel room & I hve to admit it's nice knowing someone else is in charge of cleaning!

One of my favorite things: Mild weather & low humidity!

A few plans for the rest of the week: Like I already said, photo sorting, walking, shopping, sleeping.

Something you may not know about me: I prefer to shower in hard water than soft water. First thing I noticed while in tub is how "clean" I felt. Rusk water is extremely, very soft, which saves on soap, as a little goes a long way . . . but skin & hair feel/look better w/harder water.

Friday, September 5, 2008

For Today; September 5, 2008

Outside my window:Crickets chirping in the cool morning air.

I am thinking: that McCain is not as engaging as SP...I fell asleep during his speech!

I am thankful: to have gotten a full night's sleep - the first in months - maybe years? I slept from about 10 PM to 12:30. . . staying awake for maybe 10-25 minutes. . . then woke up at 5:40. I feel amazing! I will ALWAYS drink the magnesium at night instead of the morning! I can 't remember the last time I got 7 hours sleep! Go me!!!

From the kitchen: Murray opening & closing cabinets . . . doling out his vitamins.

I am creating: a stack of stuff to take to Shreveport. I've decided to take along a bunch of photos to continue sorting into categories. I plan to spend my time in my jammies, watching cable TV & sorting photos. Oh - I'll be sure to go to the Boardwalk. Can't wait to hit Chico's where last time I got pants for $3.95. Besides, who can resist those vanity sizes? I don't really wear a 1/2-1! Only at Chicos!

We'll be staying at the brand, new Hilton. Hopefully it's close enough & safe enough to walk over to The Boardwalk? If not, I'm sure there's a shuttle. AND there's enough opportunity to walk, once there!!!!

I am going: finish packing bags & getting ready to go

I am wearing: aqua nightshirt

I am reading: "Boundaries" & Isaiah.

I am hoping: to get another good night's sleep? Sort photos. Do lots of walking in Shreveport. Relax

Around the house: Bags are out. Shiloh knows something is "up".

One of my favorite things: a great, good night's sleep!!!!!

A few plans for the rest of the week: Like I already said, photo sorting, walking, shopping, sleeping.

Something you may not know about me: I go months & months w/o drinking caffeine, and then something happens & I'll have a cuppacawfee & will drink it daily for months at a time. Then I'll quit & the cycle starts over again. It's always been this way: months w/o caffeine

Thursday, September 4, 2008

For Today; September 4, 2008

Outside my window: Cool, cloudy weather. Will be perfect as soon as the clouds burn off.

I am thinking: that the GOP Vice President Nominee, Governor Sarah Palin, made a darn good impression last night at the RNC. She countered all the concerns from the Democrats & showed she's no shrinking violet. Go Sarah!

I am thankful: the weather is cooling. Yes, it's partly because of Gustav . . . but next week's forecast has promise of a little bit of autumn. I love the changing seasons . . . but most favorite of all is autumn. It's a better time to garden here in TX, we get to celebrate Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday. And why is it my favorite? Because the focus is on gratefulness & there's no burden of finding the perfect gift for someone. No arguing about what it's really about. The only real negative thing is the day after sales. Oh my - it's quite contrary to the day before of focusing on all we have to be thankful for! But I never go out into the madness anyway so it doesn't really effect me.

From the kitchen: Stuff piled on the counter.

I am creating: not too much creativity today. Just a rather average, ordinary day. I "will" sort through photos as friend Debby wants a relatively current pic of the two of us. Hmmm - will it be from Amanda's wedding? Or the two of us in life vests on the cruise? Or her 50th b'day party? Well, I'll look, find & have them when we meet in Florida in a couple of weeks.

I am going: to sort through photos, pay bills, work in Palestine tonight.

I am wearing: capris & t-shirt

I am reading: "Boundaries" & Isaiah.

I am hoping: to be ready to leave town tomorrow for Shreveport.

Around the house: The same as yesterday: mainly little evidences of people living, loving & creating!

One of my favorite things: organization & simplicity, although you couldn't really tell by looking in my closet, drawers & laundry/sewing/storage/library!

A few plans for the rest of the week: Getting ready for Shreveport.

Something you may not know about me: Although terrified of snakes, I'm not afraid of insects. I don't particularly like some of them . . . but I'm not afraid of any of them, and actually like most of them!

Wednesday, September 3, 2008

For Today; September 3, 2008

Outside my window: Drizzly weather. Cloudy.

I am thinking: I need to use more specifics on this blog. For instance - I went back & read some entries in June, saying how God was so evident in the details. But I didn't write what that was & 3 months later I don't remember. Soooo - there will be less generalities & more details.

I am thankful: to have Shiloh back home, even if he did east a skinny bar of soap! Does that mean he'll be pooping bubbles?

From the kitchen: Coffee & strawberry smoothie.

I am creating: An "Us" collage of Murray & me....pix of the two of us from long ago & current. Top left will say "I Do" (and have wedding pic) bottom right will say, "I Forever Do". I might actually have it done by our 40 anniversary next August.

I am going: to volunteer at Good Sam this morning.

I am wearing: that pitiful chenille gown that Amanda wants dome day.

I am reading: "Boundaries" & Isaiah.

I am hoping: Shiloh will willingly go into his crate when it's time for me to leave.

Around the house: mainly little evidences of people living, loving & creating!

One of my favorite things: Smoothies. They're quick, nutritious & tasty.

A few plans for the rest of the week: Continue sorting through photos & finding one of Debby & me together. She's working on a secret project & won't tell me anything more than she needs me to find a photo of the two of us.

Compile total weight loss for Rusk WW meeting.

Something you may not know about me: I like finding new uses for old things.

Tuesday, September 2, 2008

For Today; September 2, 2008

Outside my window: A nicely manicured yard! Birds chirping. Hens clucking.

I am thinking: I need to read all WW stuff @ the new campaign: "Lose for Good" & prepare meeting.

I am thankful: Gustav is having very little impact on us. Not much rain. No strong winds - just a rather pleasant stiff breeze. We'll see how the day progresses....but they're now saying not too much will occur.

From the kitchen: Coffee.

I am creating: A different kind of dining room.

I am going: to WW meeting in Rusk.

I am wearing: pink nightie.

I am reading: "Boundaries"

I am hoping: we don't lose electricity.

Around the house: Clean!

One of my favorite things: Laughter. And pictures of people laughing. I've discovered most people don't like pics of them laughing. I LOVE them!

A few plans for the rest of the week: WW prep & meeting; gong to Shreveport; sort through photos to take to Orlando in a couple of weeks.

Something you may not know about me: Did I already write that I was a grandmother at 40?

Monday, September 1, 2008

For Today; September 1, 2008

Outside my window: Weedeater humming as Murray attempts to win the war against grass & weeds. We've had 15" of rain the last 20 days and another 10-15" predicted this week. We are losing the war on vegetation.

I am thinking: I need to vacuum; clean; do laundry; cook up food; etc., in preparation for Gustav.

I am thankful: We made it home w/o incident. There was heavier traffic than usual. Lots of Louisiana license plates. But nothing close to causing a panic attack!

And - I'm thankful the mower repairman is willing to come to the house on Labor Day. The riding mower quit working & the property is WAY to huge to mow w/a push mower!

From the kitchen: Coffee, eggs cooking, shrimp thawing.

I am creating: plans for living w/o electricity. 3 years ago, when Hurricane Rita came through, we were 5 days w/o electricity. No fun in an all electric home. The only really bad thing was living w/o air conditioning. I love the air conditioner.

I am going: to cook up food, get flashlights handy, etc. And plan a WW meeting.

I am wearing: cool clothes.

I am reading: "Boundaries"

I am hoping: we don't lose electricity.

Around the house: Busy-ness.

One of my favorite things: Hearing the a/c hum!!!

A few plans for the rest of the week: WW prep & meeting; gong to Shreveport. What on earth will that be like? They've taken in 10,000 evacuees!

Something you may not know about me: I like starting new things, but not always finishing them. I like the excitement of the newness.
